Critter Notices

Critters is 23!

Yes, 23 years ago Critters was born. Wow! Thanks so much to all of you, who've made it such a resounding success!

Critters no longer accepting European Union members :(

It's with a heavy heart that I have to announce Critters can no longer accept people in the European Union as members. This is a result of the "GDPR" privacy laws going into effect. I'm a big fan of privacy, and applaud the general idea behind the GDPR, but the way it's implemented forces me to close the door to EU writers. [read more why...]

**NOW IN PRINT EDITION TOO!** Awesome new book, HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR SPECULATIVE FICTION OPENINGS, from a Critter member whose unearthed a shard of The Secret to becoming a pro writer. Really good piece of work. "...if you're at all concerned about story openings, you'd be nuts not to read what Qualkinbush has to say." —Wil McCarthy, author of BLOOM and THE COLLAPSIUM

Network speeding up

I'm switching the connection over to a new, shiny 10X faster network because of all the load. There might be bits of downtime as your boxes learn new addresses and things. Should be brief. Let me know of any prolonged outages you see.

Preditors & Editors Changeover

With the very sad passing of Dave Kuzminski, who ran P&E, I've taken over the P&E duties. Lots of what I hope are improvements; check it out at pred-ed.com.

Critters Server is Dying has been Replaced

See important details here in my blog. Let me know if you find anything that isn't working right. (Manuscripts are now available for this week, FYI.)

Known Issues

Below is a list of know issues reported with the Reader' Poll. If you know of a problem and don't see it listed here, you may report it here.

In Nonfiction articles page, 'Joy V. smith' is a typo and should read: 'Joy V. Smith'.

In All other Novels, 'Eyes of Darkness #7: King's Ransom' is a duplicate of 'Eyes of Darkness #7: King's Ransom'.

In All other Short Stories, 'Temptations: Three's Company' is a duplicate of 'Temptations: Three's Company'.

In Authors page, 'Christy Poff' is a duplicate of 'Christy Poff'.

In Erotica Novels, bestpoll/erot_author It does not let you nominate people...The page opens with an error. I have tried on mutliple computers and different internet internet programs such as IE and Google chrome.. Also the confirmation pages are not opening properly..for some categories when you try to confirm...

In Authors page, 'Indy McDaniel' is a duplicate of 'Indy McDaniel'. Also, Christy Poff is listed twice

In Book/e-book Cover Artwork page, 'Cthulhurotica Oliver Wetter' is a duplicate of 'Cthulhurotica Oliver Wetter'.

In Thriller Novels, Have entered and voted for my novel Requiem for the Ripper but it has not shown up in the Thriller list. Regards Brian

In Thriller Novels, 'Requiem for the Ripper' is a duplicate of 'Requiem for the Ripper'.

In Science Fiction & Fantasy Novels, 'Spoils of War' is a duplicate of 'Spoils of War'.

In Children's Books, 'A Wish and a Prayer' is a duplicate of 'A Wish and a Prayer'.

In Artists page, The link to Ginger Nielson's website is missing on the "artist" voting page.

In Writers' Discussion Forum page, I accidentally sent people to the same link twice for the Discussion Forum page, when one link was supposed to be for Workshop. There may be duplicate votes for Young Writers Online (I'm not sure how many). I apologize for the inconvenience. I didn't notice until this morning. I also noticed that both of those pages have Young Writers Online on the voting list more than once.

In Science Fiction & Fantasy Novels, 'Jack Brand by John M. Whalen' is a duplicate of 'Jack Brand by John Whalen'.

In Science Fiction & Fantasy Short Stories, '"A Rip through Time" with no author/link' is a duplicate of '"A Rip through Time" with my name and link'.

In Thriller Novels, Just looking to add my website to Without Hesitation: The Rasner Effect II The website is: www.markrosendorf.com Thanks in advance, Mark Rosendorf author of The Rasner Effect series. www.markrosendorf.com

In Horror Short Stories, 'Fire Wall' is a duplicate of 'Fire Wall '. The story was entered twice apparently. Once listed as being published by "The Absent Willow Review" and once by "Absent Willow Review." Maybe the omission of "The" in one of them was enough to make them appear as two separate stories? The links are the same and both functional, so I'd like to request that only one be listed so the votes aren't split. Thank you, Kat Heckenbach

In Erotica Novels, When my friend tried to vote, she did not get an email to click and confirm. I tried and had the same result. Is this a category wide problem or just on my nominee?

In Children's Books, In the children's category for the book The Golden Pathway the publisher is spelt wrong. It should read: Guardian Angel Publishing. Thank you.

In Review Site page, 'Jessewave' is a duplicate of 'reviews by jessewave'.

In Review Site page, 'jessewave' is a duplicate of 'reviews by jessewave'.

In Bookstore page, Since there are a significant number of comments, I did want to report this. It doesn't appear this is a bookstore, rather it appears to be a critique site/forum for aspiring writers. However, it's in the bookstore category: critique circle

In Print/Electronic Book Publishers page, 'ireadiwrite' is a duplicate of 'ireadiwrite Publishing'.

In Review Site page, 'jessewave' is a duplicate of 'reviews by jessewave'. 'jessewave' is a typo and should read: 'reviews by jessewave'.

In Romance Short Stories, 'Demonic Persuasion' is a duplicate of 'Demonic Pursuasion is there 3 times'.

In Children's Books, 'A Wish and a Prayer' is a duplicate of 'A Wish and a Prayer'. A Wish and a Prayer is listed four times at the beginning of the voting list. I can understand alphabetical order putting it first, but listing it four times is a bit much and a decided advantage, don't you think? How about leveling the playing field?

In Writers' Resource/Information/News Source page, 'savvy authors' is a duplicate of 'Savvy authors'.

In Romance Short Stories, I think I might have just accidentally voted twice in the Romance Short Story category...I thought I was voting for an erotica novel by Cherie de Sues and I got confused about which page I was on, and voted for her short romance story. Then I realized I'd already cast a vote for a short romance story category (Faery's Bargain by Madeleine Drake). I wasn't trying to vote twice; it was a goof. -Bonnie

In Artists page, I entered a cover and then went back to check on it. It is not appearing on the site. Please advise. Thanks!

In Mystery Novels, 'Healey's Cave (Paladin Timeless, a Twilight Times Imprint)' is a duplicate of 'Healey's Cave (Twilight Times Books)'. Thanks!

In Children's Books, 'Philip and the Superstition Kid' is a duplicate of 'Philip & the ssuperstition kid'. Please combine the votes of the books. It is one and the same book. Thank you.

In All other Short Stories, 'Susan Hanniforc' is a typo and should read: 'Susan Hanniford Crowley'. This is for the story Poseidon's Catch. Thank you.

In Science Fiction & Fantasy Short Stories, "Eli: Warriors for the Light" by Karen Michelle Nutt (currently #1 in the Science Fiction/Fantasy Short Story category) appears to be a Romance/Fantasy NOVEL, not a short story at all. Please investigate.

In Writers' Workshop page, 'Savvy Authors' is a duplicate of 'Savvy Authors'.

In Writers' Resource/Information/News Source page, 'Savvy Authors' is a duplicate of 'savvy authors'. We're actually listed three times. I'll submit two error reports, but that is the reason for the duplicate report.

In Writers' Resource/Information/News Source page, 'Savvy Authors' is a duplicate of 'Savvy Authors'.

In Science Fiction & Fantasy Short Stories, "Eli: the light warrior" appears to be a novel in the short story category. This does matter as it is currently in first place in the wrong category. Some deserving writer will lose their opportunity if this is allowed to remain in this category. Please correct this error!! Thank you!!

In Review Site page, 'jessewave' is a duplicate of 'reviews by jessewave'. I have reported this error twice before but nothing has been done to correct it and votes are going to both names. I will never know the correct standing of my site if this is not changed before the winner is announced. I hope you can fix this because it's been at least a week since I tried to get this corrected.
