Ack!
(As Bill the Cat used to say)
My apologies for the outage the last week! Murphy's Law has a way of whacking you. Despite my building in a gazillion redundancies and failsafes that have kept the servers up almost continually for 15 years, this is by far the worst failure we've ever had. This outage was a confluence of not one but four problems — a network outage, a hard drive failing and the RAID array not taking the load like it was supposed to, and a UPS failing and taking out some of the routers with it (so much for "Uninteruptible"!) — exacerbated by my being out of town visiting friends for the holidays, and thus hampered in directing the repairs. When it rains it— well, this is Colorado, and it does what it's doing outside right now as I write this — it blizzards. :)
Of course I also didn't have my Facebook or Twitter passwords with me so I couldn't even post updates.
Thanks to everyone for your concerns. I'm fine, just really walloped by Murphy. I think we're back on track now. I can also see several new failsafes to add, like bringing my Facebook password with me instead of relying on the browser's password manager. :)
If you had sent email, chances are your mail server bounced back to you, so just resend as if it were new.
For the P&E Poll, I'd told Dave that if there were any problems I'd be glad to extend the poll, so if it's ok with him I'll just extend the poll by a week.
Whew! Happy 2011 everyone! :)
