Ahoy, Critterfolk!

Critter Notices

Critters is 22!

Yes, 21 years ago Critters was born. Wow! Thanks so much to all of you, who've made it such a resounding success!

Books from Critters!

Check out Books by Critters for books by your fellow Critterfolk, as well as my list of recommended books for writers.

How to Write SF

The Craft of Writing Science Fiction that Sells by Ben Bova, best-selling author and six-time Hugo Award winner for Best Editor. (This is one of the books your ol' Critter Captain learned from himself, and I highly recommend it.) (Also via Amazon)

The Sigil Trilogy

If you're looking for an amazing, WOW! science fiction story, check out THE SIGIL TRILOGY. This is — literally — one of the best science fiction novels I've ever read.

P&E Seeks New Caretaker

Unfortunately, much of the data on the P&E site has become stale and outdated, and needs a new caretaker with the time required to update the site. The listings are being removed until they can be updated by a new caretaker.

Note that the P&E/Critters Annual Readers Poll will run as usual in January.

If you are interested in taking the reins of P&E, and possess what's needed — at least 20hrs/week to volunteer, excellent investigative skills, in-depth knowledge of the publishing industry, ability to detect scams from not-scams, thick skin, good web site skills, good writing ability — please get in touch. Thanks for your interest!

Interviewed!

I'm being interviewed live on public radio for Critters 20th birthday. For those who want to listen, it's on the 10am (Mountain time) show on Thursday, 11/19/16, on Colorado Public Radio - www.cpr.org has streaming on the site or it's 90.1 FM in the Denver area. [Interview is done, you can listen on the site]

Free Web Sites

Free web sites for authors (and others) are available at www.nyx.net.

ReAnimus Acquires Advent!

ReAnimus Press is pleased to announce the acquisition of the legendary Advent Publishers! Advent is now a subsidiary of ReAnimus Press, and we will continue to publish Advent's titles under the Advent name. Advent was founded in 1956 by Earl Kemp and others, and has published the likes of James Blish, Hal Clement, Robert Heinlein, Damon Knight, E.E. "Doc" Smith, and many others. Advent's high quality titles have won and been finalists for several Hugo Awards, such as The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction and Fantasy and Heinlein's Children. Watch this space for ebook and print editions of all of Advent's current titles!

Network speeding up

I'm switching the connection over to a new, shiny 10X faster network because of all the load. There might be bits of downtime as your boxes learn new addresses and things. Should be brief. Let me know of any prolonged outages you see.

Preditors & Editors Changeover

With the very sad passing of Dave Kuzminski, who ran P&E, I've taken over the P&E duties. Lots of what I hope are improvements; check it out at pred-ed.com.

Critters Server is Dying has been Replaced

See important details here in my blog. Let me know if you find anything that isn't working right. (Manuscripts are now available for this week, FYI.)

Book Recommendation

THE SIGIL TRILOGY: The universe is dying from within... "Great stuff... Really enjoyed it." — SFWA Grandmaster Michael Moorcock

Melissa Miller is the best!!!!

Solstice Publishing works to promote its books.

I've had worked published with Solstice over the last couple of years. They have always been responsive to questions everyone has had, and they are always looking to advance and add services to the site and make the site very easy to access and find our way around in it.

This publisher goes the distance when promoting books.

Solstice provides good submission editing, publishes and pays royalties promptly.

Solstice Publishing was so great. They agreed to publish my book right after I was rejected by I know not how many literary agents. I'm so glad I did not make any major changes to my manuscript to please those agents. As it is said, the industry is subjective. My book is coming out in February. I'm so excited! Solstice is a small publisher, but they are great. Thanks!

A really fine publisher. They have treated me fairly. I can ask no more.

Absolutely fabulous publisher!

Best publisher ever-love their authors

Wonderful publisher to work with.

They have wonderful books in a huge range of genres.

Great publisher. Very supportive.

Solstice has the fastest turnaround of any publisher I've worked with, not only for acceptance, but responding to questions. They gave me a great editor, too.

Responsive, flexible, versatile when it comes to options for book covers, and strive to be 'present' on the home-group site scene. Haven't seen them 'absent themselves' as is the case with many small and medium-sized epubs.

Really supportive.

I only found out about Dave yesterday and am so sad to hear he's passed. He was very special to me. We argued a lot and laughed a lot. RIP, my friend. Saundra Solstice is a great publisher and take good care of their authors.

They cater towards their authors. Great group of people!

Great publisher with a great variety of books.

Solstice Publishing is truly an author's friend and partner, constantly offering suggestions and advice for marketing, promoting, and writing!

Best in promoting my books, as well as working with their authors. Also, they are one of only a very few publishers that keeps their author's updated on their sales on a monthly basis.

Solstice Publishing goes a step beyond many other publishers, always finding new methods for promotion. This company is more devoted to their authors than any other I've encountered.

This publisher goes the extra mile for its writers.

this best co.Love her authors.

A very supportive publisher. Always available for contact and advice. Gives advertising tips and pushes its authors into the vast market out there.

Very helpful publishing team. Can't say enough good things about them!!

She has a great variety of books to read.

They are a great publisher to work with. I have been with them for seven years. They care about you not just your book.

Solstice Publishing represent fresh, new talent across several genres...their stable of writers are a force to be reckoned with...

Totally honest. Great editors.

very dedicated and hard working-- would love to see them win as they deserve it ---

missey is the best!!

Solstice picked up the pieces for me after my last publisher took the royalties and ran. The staff is amazing too. Can't say enough good things.

good writing

International Thriller Writers approved publisher. This publisher publishes qualitybooks and anthologies in a variety of genres.

Highly professional publlisher!

An author-friendly publisher! Staffed by professionals who are supportive all the way through from submission to publication. I've had two other publishers, and Solstice is the best of the lot by far!

Quick responses, always helpful, encourage their authors to promote each other

Solstice published 4 of my novels and helps its writers market their books.

thanks for letting me vote- it's important

They are the best publishers, always willing to help me and others out. As a newbie author I have a tons of questions.

My Publisher- they saw the beauty in the words and made it just so.

Love Melissa! Great working with you!

Very professional.

Solstice is a superp publisher, who supports their authors 100%. Questions are rapidly answered and advice freely givèn. On top of àll this they're friendly and approachable. À perfect publisher.

Honest, helpful, and take care of their authors.

Solstice provides their authors with precisely what they advertise. Always above board and honest with their authors.

I have been with Solstice for years. They are totally honest and open. Other companies have not been like them. If you are accepted by Solstice, you will certainly be happy with how they treat you.

Exceptional on all counts. This small but mighty team proves once again that hard work and perseverance pays off.

I am a newly published novelist and Solstice Publishing has been extremely professional in their dealings with me. Very upfront and polite.

does great work !!! :)

Aside from classy choices for publication, Solstice is top notch when it comes to editing.

Solstice staff excels at mentoring authors, particularly those new to the world of publishing. And they're not afraid to take risks on authors who have been turned down by other publishers, bringing hidden gems to light. Great job!

So supportive, friendly, works hard.

Solstice - Better than your publisher.

Solstice Por Siempre!

They show great enthusiasm for their writers.

Solstice features a wide variety of very talented authors!

They're available!!!

Very good supportive publishers

Awesome.

Personable, a writer's friend.

They're available each and every day to their writers.
